Dance the Weekend Away at Los Angeles Greek Fest!

This is a weekend to celebrate in Hollywood! Our very own St. Sophia’s Cathedral will be the site of the #1 Southern California Greek Festival all weekend. Come out for music, dancing, delicious food and culture. Guests will have the chance to tour the beautiful St. Sophia’s Cathedral during the festival with audio presentations on the hour.

The Greek Fest starts on Friday, September 7 at 5pm. The first night is Zorba Night with “Happy Hour” free admission! Live music will play all night to inspire you during the Zorba Dance Contest. To watch a video of past Zorba Nights, click here.

LA Greek Festival

On Saturday, the festivities will start again at 1pm. Greek music will play so that you can dance the night away! There will also be Greek cooking demonstrations and Saint Sophia dancers. If you don’t know the steps never fear, at 5:15pm, join the Greek Dance Workshop to learn some moves! After, don’t miss the theatrical performance of “Conversations with the Ancients” and “Charanga Latina,” the salsa show. The festival’s headliner is a special concert show from Thanos Petrelis at 8pm.

On Sunday, the fun starts all over again with a grand prize drawing at the end of the night at 8:45pm. The grand prize is a $2000 dream vacation package, with smaller prizes including an Apple iPad, flatscreen color TV and much more. The festival officially closes at 10pm. You can sample Greek dishes all weekend, including gyros, moussaka, spanikopita, baklava and more.

Some of the forms of dance you can expect to see at the Greek Fest include Hasapiko, Pentozali, Kalamatianos, Tsamiko and Zeibekiko. Tickets cost $3 with one entry into the raffle per ticket. If you’re looking for places to stay in Hollywood, The Hollywood Hotel can provide a wonderful introduction to Los Angeles with its close proximity to landmarks such as The Hollywood Sign, Walk of Fame, and Mann’s Chinese Theater.

This Weekend in Los Angeles (August 10-12, 2012)

Whether you’re vacationing with the kids or taking a personal trip, Los Angeles has plenty to offer travelers. Read below for information on two great events happening this weekend!

Brew at the Zoo

What better way to spend a summer Friday evening in Los Angeles than with Brew at the Zoo? The second annual event combines beer, live music, pub food, and animals for a great night. If you’re taking advantage of a Hollywood vacation package for Universal Studios, this is a great way to unwind after a long trip at the park or start your vacation weekend in LA!

The 2nd annual Brew at the Zoo will offer 4.5 ounce beer samples, comedians from the Laugh Factory, DJ MORNINGSTAR, live local bands, fish ‘n chips and much more!  Beer samples are from California craft breweries and every guest will receive a collectible sampler glass.

Animal highlights at the LA Zoo include elephants, koalas, and apes. You can also check out the new LAIR exhibit featuring living amphibians, invertebrates and reptiles. Exhibit animals include crocodiles, rattlesnakes, vipers, giant salamander, horned lizards and many other slimy and scaly creatures.

Brew at the Zoo is on August 10 from 6 to 10pm at the Los Angeles Zoo. Tickets are $40 presale and $45 at the door. Designated drivers can attend for $20. You must be 21 years or older attend this event. To buy tickets, click here.

Children's Festival of the Arts

Children’s Festival of the Arts

If you’re vacationing with the kids, there’s a fun festival happening this weekend in Hollywood specially geared towards children and the arts!  The Hollywood Arts Council will be celebrating Paramount Picture’s 100th birthday with the Children’s Festival of the Arts.

The Hollywood Hotel is an official sponsor of the Children’s Festival of the Arts. The festival will take place at the Paramount Pictures studio on Melrose Avenue in the shaded garden adjacent to their historic gated entrance. There will be live performances of dance from all cultures around the world, special celebrity appearances, family art workshops, face painting, a cake decorating contest and puppet making. The event is free to attend.

Parking will be available at the Bronson Gate. Food and drinks will be available on site for the whole family. The festival will be held from noon to 4:30pm on August 12. Bring the kids out for a day of culture and fun!
