Race for a Great Cause

With summer only a few months away why not work towards that beach body you’ve always wanted? A great way to start off your workout routine is by participating in this year’s Los Angeles River 5k Fun Run.  This race is a great opportunity to get back in shape right in time for the summer.  For those of you just beginningLos Angeles River 5K Fun Run your fitness plan, the LA River run will start you off on the right foot. Since this is not a competitive race, participants are encouraged to run at their own pace but to also push themselves as much as they possibly can.  This event calls together all communities within the greater Los Angeles area including children, teens and older adults.  This is the 2nd annual LA River Fun Run which takes place on Sunday, May 5 along the LA River beds.  For those who don’t like to run, choose to jog or walk the entire race.  This event was made possible by the Councilman Tom LaBonge and A Runner’s Circle.    Promoting community involvement, charity, and healthy lifestyles, the LA River Fun Run is a positive experience for every participant.  This event is fun for the whole family so kids are strongly encouraged to participate.  There will be a Free Kids 1k run and kids free zone featuring other fun activities, so sign up your kids today!

There are expected to about 800 participants attending this race, so be prepared to meet a lot of locals and tourists staying in Hollywood CA or the Los Angeles area.   In addition, participating in this race will also give you chance to raise awareness to restore the LA River.  The goal of this event is not only to bring neighboring and diverse communities together but also to raise donations for the beautification of the river.  The Los Angeles River is considered to be a hidden gem as it bears a significance in LA history.  While participating in this race, you will experience the wonderful wildlife and history of the LA  firsthand.  All the proceeds will go towards the restoration of the LA River and bring it back to life.  Unlike previous races, this year will reveal a new 5K course run that will take you along the river bike trail from Los Feliz Blvd.  Save the historic LA River by showing your support and raise awareness alongside organizations actively participating in this great cause.   For more information about this event please click here.

Celebrate Halloween at the Rock'n'Roll Marathon this weekend!

Are you still looking for ways to celebrate Halloween? If you’re in town taking advantage of hotel specials in HollywoodLos Angeles Halloween Marathon, you can take part in the Rock’n’Roll Marathon Series in downtown Los Angeles! There may still be spots available at the Health and Fitness Expo from October 26-27. The race also needs spectators to watch as runners travel 13.1 miles from L.A. Live to Exposition Boulevard all the way to Whittier Boulevard and back in downtown Los Angeles.

There are three races available: a marathon, half marathon and mini-marathon. There will be a wave start to ensure all participants’ comfort. There are multiple waves assigned to several of the finishing times. Participants will be able to enjoy a scenic course highlight Downtown Los Angeles, live, local bands along the way, cheer squads, a free participant t-shirt, finisher certificates,  a finisher’s medal, swag bag, and free admission to the Finish Line Festival and Post Race Concert as well as the Expo.

The Health and Fitness Expo will offer free samples, health and nutritional information, and showcase all the latest in running gear and sports apparel. Be sure to check out the Brooks Official Merchandise store for last-minute race-day essentials! All runners must pick up their race number, swag bag and t-shirt at the Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center, South Hall K. Hours are 12pm to 6pm on Friday, October 26 and 9am to 5pm on Saturday, October 27.

At 8:45am, you can watch the ASPCA Pet Costume Contest before the opening concert and awards ceremony. CAMRYN and The Dirty Heads will play at 9:15am and 10:15am, along with other bands along the course. There will also be a costume contest at 11:15am.
